Our View

If you enjoy being on the water as much as searching for wildlife, this is a wonderfully rewarding safari. The combination of boats, mokoros, guided walks and game drives reveals the Okavango from every possible perspective.

Waterways, floodplains and classic safari living come together at Duba Explorers Camp, an intimate tented retreat in Botswana's extraordinary Okavango Delta.

Surrounded by permanent channels, seasonal floodplains and pockets of mopane and acacia woodland, the camp offers a wonderfully immersive safari shaped by the rhythm of the Delta. Reached by timber bridges and built beneath mature jackalberry and leadwood trees, it feels peaceful and secluded, while the surrounding wetlands support exceptional wildlife, remarkable birdlife and ever-changing landscapes throughout the seasons.

Lodging

Accommodation comprises just five spacious canvas tents, each raised on timber decking with private verandas overlooking the surrounding waterways. Inspired by the golden age of African exploration, the interiors combine campaign furniture, writing desks, natural timber and canvas with understated comfort, creating an atmosphere that feels authentic, relaxed and entirely in keeping with the surrounding wilderness.

Large beds, en-suite bathrooms, generous living space and thoughtful touches ensure every tent provides a welcoming retreat between safari activities, while the sounds of hippos, birds and the distant calls of wildlife become part of everyday life.

Dining

Dining follows the relaxed pace of the safari, with freshly prepared meals served in the open-sided dining area, out in the bush or beneath Botswana's spectacular night skies. Flexible meal times allow each day to develop naturally, while attentive service, excellent wines and beautifully prepared cuisine complete the experience without ever distracting from the remarkable setting.

Safari Experience

Duba Explorers Camp celebrates the diversity of the Okavango Delta, combining traditional game drives with experiences that explore the region's remarkable waterways. Guided by experienced professionals, guests venture across floodplains, islands and woodland in search of elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and the many species that thrive within this rich ecosystem.

Exploring by motorboat and traditional mokoro reveals another side of the Delta entirely. Quiet channels lined with papyrus and water lilies provide exceptional opportunities to observe hippos, crocodiles and prolific birdlife, while the slower pace allows guests to appreciate details often missed on a vehicle safari. Guided walks continue that experience on foot, following animal tracks, interpreting the landscape and discovering the smaller wildlife that makes the Delta so fascinating.

Night drives add another dimension, with opportunities to encounter elusive nocturnal wildlife including lion, hyena and many of the bush's lesser-seen mammals. Seasonal catch-and-release fishing offers yet another way to experience the waterways, while scenic helicopter flights provide a breathtaking perspective across the intricate network of channels, lagoons and floodplains stretching towards the horizon.

Photography is particularly rewarding here. Purpose-built safari vehicles are equipped with raised roofs, fold-down windscreens and specialist photographic supports, allowing guests to make the most of exceptional wildlife encounters while enjoying uninterrupted views across the surrounding landscape.

Wildlife & Seasons

The changing floodwaters continually reshape the Delta, creating new channels, islands and grazing areas that influence wildlife movements throughout the year. More than 400 bird species have been recorded here, while elephant, buffalo, predators and plains game move between woodland and floodplain as conditions evolve. Every season offers a different perspective, ensuring that no two safaris are ever quite the same.

Location

Duba Explorers Camp occupies a peaceful setting in the northern reaches of the Duba region within the Okavango Delta. Surrounded by permanent waterways and reached by a series of timber bridges, it provides an exceptional base for discovering one of Botswana's richest and most diverse wilderness landscapes.
