Our View
This is a safari for those who enjoy discovering the bush rather than simply driving through it. Canoeing the Selinda Spillway and exploring on foot adds a depth to the experience that stays with you long after you leave.
Adventure and exceptional wildlife define Okavango Explorers Camp, an intimate safari retreat where the Okavango Delta meets Botswana's remarkable Selinda Reserve.
Occupying a unique position at the meeting point of two extraordinary ecosystems, the camp enjoys access to permanent waterways, open grasslands and wildlife-rich woodland surrounding the Selinda Spillway. This diverse landscape supports impressive concentrations of predators, elephants and plains game, while its remote setting creates a safari that feels wonderfully wild, peaceful and far removed from the everyday.
Lodging
Accommodation comprises six spacious canvas tents raised on timber decking beneath the shade of mature trees. Inspired by the spirit of early African exploration, the interiors combine campaign-style furnishings, natural textures and understated comfort with generous living space, creating an atmosphere that feels relaxed rather than overly formal.
Each tent opens onto a private veranda overlooking the surrounding bush, offering a peaceful place to watch wildlife passing through camp. En-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds and thoughtful details ensure every tent provides a welcoming retreat between safari activities.
Dining
Dining follows the rhythm of each day's adventures, with freshly prepared meals served beneath canvas, around the fire or out in the bush. Flexible timings allow mornings and afternoons to be shaped around the wildlife rather than the clock, while attentive service and excellent cuisine complete the experience without ever becoming the focus.
Safari Experience
Okavango Explorers Camp is built around exploration. Early morning, afternoon and full-day game drives venture across open grasslands, woodland and the seasonal channels surrounding the Selinda Spillway, where experienced guides adapt every outing to wildlife movements and changing conditions rather than following predetermined routes.
The reserve supports outstanding populations of elephant, lion, leopard, African wild dogs, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and eland, while the dry season often brings remarkable concentrations of elephant to the river system. Birdlife is equally impressive, rewarding both experienced birdwatchers and first-time safari guests with an ever-changing variety of resident and migratory species.
Guided walks reveal another side of the wilderness, encouraging a slower appreciation of animal tracks, plants and the intricate relationships that shape the ecosystem. During the flood season, canoeing along the Selinda Spillway offers an unforgettable perspective as guests drift quietly through channels surrounded by reeds, lilies and abundant birdlife, an experience found in very few places across Africa.
Night drives continue well after sunset in search of the bush's nocturnal inhabitants. Lion, hyena and a fascinating variety of lesser-seen mammals become active after dark, while seasonal catch-and-release fishing, scenic helicopter flights and private safari vehicles provide even greater flexibility for guests wishing to tailor their experience.
Wildlife & Seasons
Each season reveals a different character. The flood season transforms the Spillway into a beautiful network of waterways ideal for canoeing, while the drier months attract thousands of elephants together with impressive concentrations of predators and plains game. This continual change ensures every visit offers fresh wildlife encounters and a new perspective on the surrounding landscape.
Location
Okavango Explorers Camp enjoys a remote setting within Botswana's private Selinda Reserve, where the upper Okavango Delta meets the Selinda Spillway. This remarkable meeting of two ecosystems creates one of northern Botswana's richest wildlife habitats and provides an exceptional base for a safari centred on exploration and discovery.
