Our View

Few camps combine exclusivity and wildlife quite so effortlessly. With access to both the Olare Motorogi Conservancy and the Maasai Mara, every day offers something different, while the exceptional guiding makes every sighting even more memorable

Exceptional wildlife and refined safari living come together at Mara Plains Camp, an intimate retreat within Kenya's exclusive Olare Motorogi Conservancy.

Positioned beside the winding Ntiakitiak River beneath a canopy of mature forest, the camp enjoys one of the Maasai Mara ecosystem's most privileged locations. Guests have access to both the wildlife-rich Olare Motorogi Conservancy and the neighbouring Maasai Mara National Reserve, creating a safari that combines remarkable exclusivity with some of Africa's finest game viewing.

Lodging

Mara Plains Camp features just five beautifully appointed canvas suites, each raised above the forest floor on timber decks and connected by elevated walkways. Deep canvas ceilings, polished timber floors, handcrafted furnishings and rich East African design details create interiors that feel elegant without losing the atmosphere of a traditional safari camp.

Each suite opens onto a generous private veranda overlooking the surrounding forest and river. Spacious bathrooms feature deep copper bathtubs, indoor showers and double vanities, while comfortable sitting areas invite guests to unwind as wildlife moves quietly through the landscape beyond.

Dining

As a member of Relais & Châteaux, dining is an integral part of the experience. Menus celebrate fresh seasonal ingredients and can be enjoyed in the main dining room, beneath the trees, on your private deck or out in the bush between safari activities.

Excellent wines, attentive service and complete flexibility ensure every meal feels relaxed, whether returning from an early morning drive or enjoying dinner beneath Kenya's spectacular night sky.

Safari Experience

The Olare Motorogi Conservancy is regarded as one of the finest places in Africa to observe big cats, with remarkably low vehicle numbers allowing wildlife encounters to unfold naturally. Lion, leopard and cheetah thrive here alongside elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hyena and abundant plains game, creating consistently rewarding safaris throughout the year.

Morning, afternoon and full-day game drives explore both the conservancy and the Maasai Mara National Reserve, allowing guests to experience a remarkable variety of habitats. During longer stays, full-day safaris venture deep into the Mara with picnic breakfasts and lunches, making the most of every opportunity as wildlife movements change throughout the day.

Night drives reveal an entirely different side of the conservancy, where nocturnal predators and lesser-seen mammals emerge after sunset. During the Great Migration, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra arrive from the Serengeti, transforming the surrounding plains into one of the world's greatest wildlife spectacles.

Photography is exceptionally well catered for. Custom-designed Land Cruisers feature raised roofs, fold-down camera platforms and specialist photographic supports, while every suite includes professional Canon camera equipment and high-quality binoculars, allowing guests to capture remarkable wildlife encounters in outstanding detail.

Wildlife & Seasons

Wildlife viewing remains exceptional throughout the year thanks to healthy resident populations of predators and plains game. Seasonal rainfall transforms the conservancy from golden grasslands into lush grazing country, while the Great Migration adds another unforgettable dimension between July and October as immense herds move across the neighbouring Mara.

Location

Mara Plains Camp occupies a secluded position within Kenya's private Olare Motorogi Conservancy on the northern edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Combining riverine forest, open savannah and privileged access to two outstanding safari regions, it offers one of East Africa's most rewarding wildlife experiences.
