Our View
One of South Luangwa's most beautifully positioned camps, Kakuli combines exceptional guiding with magnificent river views and outstanding wildlife throughout the year.
Perched high above the Luangwa River, Time + Tide Kakuli enjoys one of South Luangwa National Park's most spectacular settings, where panoramic river views, exceptional guiding and remarkable wildlife come together in an intimate safari camp unlike any other.
Designed around its elevated riverside position, Kakuli embraces the landscape at every turn. The open-sided chitenge overlooks both the Luangwa River and a permanent waterhole, creating a wonderfully peaceful place to pause between game drives as elephants wander down to drink, hippos surface below and giraffes drift through the surrounding woodland. Contemporary touches sit comfortably alongside traditional safari craftsmanship, allowing the camp's extraordinary setting to remain the centre of attention.
Lodging
Accommodation is limited to just four spacious safari tents together with a two-bedroom family tent, creating an atmosphere of genuine exclusivity. Positioned to maximise privacy and uninterrupted river views, each suite combines generous living space with natural materials, handcrafted furnishings and wide verandas complete with the camp's signature swinging chairs. Indoor and outdoor showers, thoughtful contemporary comforts and open-fronted design ensure guests remain immersed in the sights and sounds of the bush throughout their stay.
Dining
Dining at Kakuli is every bit as memorable as the wildlife beyond the deck. Fresh seasonal ingredients and carefully prepared menus celebrate the flavours of Zambia while incorporating subtle international influences, served in beautiful riverside surroundings where wildlife often provides an unforgettable backdrop. Whether enjoying breakfast after an early walk, lunch overlooking the river or dinner beneath a canopy of stars, every meal feels relaxed, personal and perfectly suited to life in the bush.
Safari Experience
Few camps are better placed to experience the diversity of South Luangwa. Walking safaris remain at the heart of every stay, led by highly experienced guides whose knowledge of the landscape transforms every outing into something genuinely immersive. Day and night game drives reveal one of Africa's finest leopard habitats together with lions, elephants, hippos, crocodiles and remarkable birdlife, while Kakuli's position also allows exclusive boating safaris during the Green Season, offering an entirely different perspective of the Luangwa River.
Wildlife & Seasons
Every season reveals a different character of the Luangwa Valley. As water levels fall, wildlife gathers along the river and predator sightings become increasingly rewarding, while the Green Season brings lush landscapes, exceptional birdlife and the rare opportunity to explore the river by boat. Kakuli is particularly well known for the spectacular colonies of colourful carmine bee-eaters that nest nearby, creating one of South Luangwa's most memorable natural spectacles towards the end of the dry season.
Location
Occupying an elevated position above one of the Luangwa River's busiest stretches, Time + Tide Kakuli enjoys uninterrupted views across the floodplains at the very heart of South Luangwa National Park. Wildlife is a constant presence, from elephants feeding below camp to the familiar calls of hippos after dark, placing guests in one of Zambia's most rewarding safari locations from the moment they arrive.
