Our View

NYX is a cracking choice when we want Athens to feel lively from the moment we arrive, and that rooftop is hard to leave once the Acropolis lights up and the first evening drinks appear.

Bringing a bolder personality to central Athens, NYX Esperia Palace is a five star lifestyle hotel on Stadiou Avenue with 212 rooms and suites, an art filled interior and a rooftop pool looking towards the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill.

NYX is unapologetically urban. Dark timber, saturated tones, dramatic lighting and custom wallpapers create an atmosphere with considerably more attitude than the city's classical grand hotels, while work by Greek street artist Gera 1 introduces Athens itself into the interiors. Music, contemporary art and nightlife all feed into the identity, giving the hotel an energy that feels particularly appropriate to its position in the middle of the capital.

The rooftop provides the counterpoint. From up here Athens opens out in almost every direction, with the Acropolis rising above the rooftops and Lycabettus Hill marking the opposite horizon. Add a swimming pool, restaurant and bar and it becomes much more than somewhere to admire the view, evolving through the day from a place for sunshine and lunch into one of the hotel's liveliest spaces after dark.

Rooms & Suites

The 212 rooms and suites carry the NYX character upstairs through dark wooden floors, graphic wallpapers, streamlined furniture and mood lighting, balanced by plenty of natural daylight. Selected rooms frame views towards the Acropolis, Lycabettus or the surrounding city, providing a constant reminder that you are staying right in the middle of Athens.

Categories range from the compact Down to Earth and Design Double Star rooms through larger Deluxe Spaces, with triple and interconnected options giving families and friends useful flexibility. The NYX Interconnecting Executive Suite provides the most generous arrangement for guests wanting significantly more room while keeping everyone together.

Dining

Food and drink are a major part of the experience. Kalua Athens handles breakfast and all day dining, while Panther Bistrot brings a more casual option into the mix. It is upstairs, however, that NYX finds its signature setting at the Kalua Lounge Club & Pool Restaurant.

The rooftop combines food, cocktails, music and the pool against a 360 degree Athens panorama, with the mood naturally changing as the sun disappears and the city lights take over. It is exactly the sort of place where an early evening drink has a habit of becoming dinner, particularly with the illuminated Acropolis sitting across the skyline.

Experience

There is plenty happening below the rooftop too. NYX has both outdoor and indoor swimming pools, lounges and social spaces, while its contemporary art and music give the communal areas a personality of their own. Walking tours offer an introduction to the city outside, although the central position makes independent wandering particularly easy.

Stadiou Avenue puts the historic and contemporary sides of Athens together particularly well. Ermou's shops, Syntagma and the National Garden are close at hand, while Monastiraki, Plaka and the streets beneath the Acropolis unfold naturally as you continue through the centre on foot.

Wellness

The spa provides a substantial change of pace from the energy elsewhere in the hotel. A hammam, sauna, steam room and hot tub accompany an indoor pool, spa lounge and a broad menu of massages, facials and body treatments, giving NYX a considerably more complete wellness offering than its urban personality might initially suggest.

There is also a fitness centre for more energetic mornings, but after several hours walking Athens, the combination of indoor pool, hammam and massage makes a very persuasive alternative before heading upstairs for the evening.

Where

NYX Esperia Palace sits on Stadiou Avenue in the heart of central Athens, with Syntagma Square and its metro connections close by. Ermou, Kolonaki, Monastiraki and Plaka can all be reached comfortably on foot, making this a particularly easy base for days spent moving between ancient Athens, its museums, shops, restaurants and increasingly lively contemporary neighbourhoods.
