Our View

Choose one of the harbour-facing suites if you can; waking to the gentle rhythm of the Venetian Harbour is one of Chania's great pleasures.

Occupying a distinguished position on Chania's Venetian Harbour, Ambassadors Residence blends the elegance of a restored 19th century townhouse with one of the most coveted waterfront settings in Crete, creating a stay where heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary comfort sit in perfect balance.

Originally built in the 1890s as the private residence of German Ambassador R. Krüger, the building has been carefully restored with a clear respect for its history. Original stone walls, lofty ceilings and period architecture remain central to its identity, while refined contemporary design introduces a quieter sense of luxury that never overwhelms the character of the house.

With only nine suites, the atmosphere feels wonderfully intimate. Looking out across the harbour towards the Venetian lighthouse or tucked away within the quieter streets of the Old Town, it offers the rare feeling of staying in one of Chania's historic homes rather than simply visiting another boutique hotel.

Rooms & Suites

Each suite has been individually designed around a different material, including wood, glass, porcelain, fabric and mosaic, creating distinctive interiors that avoid repetition while remaining elegantly cohesive. Natural textures, bespoke furnishings and carefully restored architectural features give every room its own personality.

Several suites enjoy uninterrupted harbour views from private balconies, while others introduce spa baths, terraces or duplex layouts that add another dimension to the stay. The Honeymoon Sea View Suite with its private roof garden is particularly impressive, pairing generous outdoor space with one of the finest panoramas across the Venetian Harbour.

Rather than relying on lavish decoration, the accommodation succeeds through proportion, craftsmanship and authenticity, allowing the history of the building to remain the defining feature throughout.

Dining

Breakfast is served with the same personal approach that defines the hotel, featuring fresh local produce and made-to-order dishes tailored to individual preferences. It feels less like a formal hotel service and more like being welcomed into an elegant private residence.

The absence of a dedicated restaurant is hardly noticed given the exceptional dining surrounding the harbour. Within a few minutes' walk, guests can choose between traditional tavernas, contemporary Cretan restaurants and lively waterfront cafés, making the neighbourhood itself an extension of the hotel experience.

Experience

Stepping outside places you immediately within one of the Mediterranean's most captivating historic quarters. The Venetian Harbour, Maritime Museum, Great Arsenal and narrow cobbled lanes unfold naturally from the front door, encouraging exploration without the need for transport or planning.

Kum Kapi, Nea Chora and the wider city remain comfortably walkable, while concierge services can arrange private tours, excursions and local experiences that reveal another side of western Crete. The location makes it remarkably easy to experience Chania at every hour of the day, from peaceful early mornings beside the harbour to lively evenings beneath the illuminated lighthouse.

Wellness

Wellness is approached discreetly through personalised massage and beauty treatments arranged on request, complementing the intimate nature of the property rather than becoming a destination in themselves.

The greatest luxury here is the atmosphere created by the building itself. Returning from the vibrant harbour to thick stone walls, elegant suites and a quieter pace provides a genuine sense of retreat in the very centre of the Old Town.

Where

Ambassadors Residence enjoys a prime waterfront location on Chania's Venetian Harbour, around 500 metres from the city centre, approximately 9 kilometres from Souda Port and 17 kilometres from Chania International Airport, placing Crete's most celebrated harbour immediately outside your door.
