Our View

We love how Asterion gets the balance right between style and soul: beautiful rooms, excellent Cretan food and an easy beachfront atmosphere that makes it wonderfully simple to switch off.

Set directly on the sands of Platanias near Chania, Asterion Suites & Spa is an adults only retreat where Cretan character, contemporary Mediterranean design and a strong sense of ease come together beside the sea.

The hotel has a soft, tactile look that feels closely connected to Crete. Natural materials, pale stone, woven textures and earthy tones run through the interiors and outdoor spaces, while low rise buildings keep the atmosphere open and relaxed. There is a clear design identity, but it never overwhelms the setting; the sea, gardens and changing light remain part of the experience throughout the day.

What gives Asterion its personality is the balance between polish and warmth. The aesthetic is considered, the service attentive and the spaces beautifully composed, yet the overall mood remains informal enough to make it easy to settle in quickly. It is a hotel that suits long, unhurried days particularly well.

Rooms & Suites

The 67 rooms and suites are bright, spacious and designed around a strong connection with the outdoors. Private balconies and terraces extend the living space naturally, with options ranging from inland and sea views to swim up suites and private pool categories.

The larger one bedroom suites add a greater sense of privacy, especially those with their own pools, while the Two Bedroom Suite works particularly well for guests wanting more space without moving away from the hotel’s calm, contemporary style. At the top end, the Panorama Suite with rooftop private pool delivers the most dramatic setting, combining generous accommodation with elevated sea views.

Throughout, the interiors remain restrained and comfortable, with soft colours, clean lines and carefully chosen details allowing the surrounding landscape to stay central. The result is accommodation that feels restful from the moment you arrive.

Dining

Food has a strong Cretan thread, beginning at Matter Main Restaurant, where breakfast and dinner bring together Greek, Mediterranean and international flavours in a relaxed setting. Local produce plays an important role, giving familiar dishes a distinct sense of place without making the experience feel overly formal.

The 35° Cretan À La Carte Restaurant takes that connection further, focusing more closely on the island’s culinary traditions and seasonal ingredients. It provides a more intimate evening experience, with dishes rooted in Crete but presented with a contemporary touch.

Drinks move naturally between the poolside atmosphere during the day and quieter evening spaces as the pace slows. Whether it is a coffee after breakfast, a cocktail by the pool or a glass of wine before dinner, the food and drink offering fits comfortably into the rhythm of the hotel.

Experience

The beachfront location shapes much of the day at Asterion. Guests can move easily between the sandy shore, the main pool and shaded outdoor areas, with loungers and open space encouraging long stretches of uninterrupted relaxation.

There is enough activity to add variety without changing the mood. Yoga sessions, walking and cycling experiences, live music and access to the surrounding coastline bring a gentle sense of movement, while the hotel’s position makes it easy to spend time by the sea and still explore western Crete at your own pace.

The atmosphere remains consistent throughout: calm, adult focused and deliberately easy going, with the emphasis firmly on enjoying the setting rather than filling every hour.

Wellness

Orion Spa adds real depth to the stay, with treatments designed around relaxation, beauty and wellbeing. Massages, facials, body treatments, wraps and light therapy sit alongside a steam room and dedicated relaxation areas, allowing guests to build as much or as little wellness into their stay as they choose.

For those who prefer to stay active, the Akylas Gym provides a well equipped fitness space, while yoga sessions and time by the sea offer a gentler alternative. Together, the spa, fitness facilities and beachfront setting give Asterion a well balanced approach to wellbeing that feels naturally integrated into the hotel.

Where

Asterion Suites & Spa is located on the beachfront near Platanias, around 3 kilometres from the centre of Platanias and approximately 15 kilometres from Chania, while Chania International Airport is around 27 kilometres away.
