Our View
Caramel has bags of character and is a real favourite for a longer Cretan stay; we’d choose one of the garden or pool villas, settle into the wonderfully easy beachfront rhythm and make sure we saved an evening for Agreco Farm.
On the beachfront at Adelianos Kampos, Caramel, A Grecotel Resort to Live captures the spirit of a small Cretan seaside village, pairing an intimate collection of suites and villas with private gardens, pools and the wonderfully relaxed rhythm of the island.
Caramel has personality from the moment you arrive. Low rise buildings are gathered around courtyards, gardens and winding pathways, with patterned floors, vintage inspired pieces and flashes of colour bringing warmth to the whitewashed architecture. There is a playful glamour to the interiors, but the character remains unmistakably Mediterranean.
The scale is an important part of its charm. This feels much more intimate than a conventional resort, with accommodation spread through gardens towards the beach and plenty of small corners that feel almost private. At its centre, the pool provides a natural gathering point before the grounds open directly onto the Cretan Sea.
Rooms & Suites
The accommodation is unusually varied, beginning with Junior Suites and progressing through family suites, maisonettes, private pool bungalows and substantial beachfront villas. Each has its own character, with terraces, balconies and gardens extending the living space outdoors and giving even the smaller categories a strong connection to the surroundings.
Junior Suites with Private Garden are lovely for couples who value their own outdoor space, while Caramel Maisonettes and Deluxe Family Suites introduce more flexible layouts for families. Deluxe Bungalow Suites with Private Pool bring another level of privacy, with the pool and terrace becoming a secluded extension of the suite.
The villas are where Caramel really opens up. Two Bedroom Caramel Villas are joined by larger two, three and four bedroom residences, including seafront options and villas with their own pools and gardens. The Four Bedroom Beach Villa Seafront is the most expansive choice, creating a wonderfully generous base for a family or group travelling together right beside the sea.
Dining
Caramel The Restaurant draws heavily on Crete for both inspiration and ingredients, beginning with a generous breakfast of island produce and continuing into evening dining with Mediterranean flavours and seasonal dishes. The atmosphere suits the hotel perfectly: polished enough to make dinner feel special, but relaxed enough to remain part of an easy seaside holiday.
Confetti Pool Lounges moves effortlessly through the day as pool bar, brasserie and all day dining spot. Lunch can stretch into the afternoon beside the water, while cocktails and lighter dishes carry the space towards evening without the need to change pace.
There is also a particularly worthwhile connection with Grecotel’s Agreco Farm, around three kilometres away among olive groves and vineyards. Its culinary experiences and organic produce offer a deeper taste of Cretan food traditions and make a rewarding addition to a stay at Caramel.
Experience
The beach runs directly along the front of the resort, making the sea an effortless part of each day. Between it and the accommodation, the outdoor pool, gardens and terraces provide plenty of places to settle, while the intimate layout means nothing ever feels very far away.
There is plenty to fill a more active day, from tennis, cycling and yoga to snorkelling, diving and water sports, while younger guests are well looked after with dedicated activities and childcare options. Live music and evening entertainment add another dimension without changing the easygoing character of the resort.
Rethymno is close enough to become part of the stay rather than a full day excursion. Its Venetian harbour, old town lanes, restaurants and shops make an easy contrast to a morning on the beach, while the surrounding countryside opens onto vineyards, olive groves and a more rural side of Crete.
Wellness
Wellness can be shaped around the day, with massages and beauty treatments available alongside yoga and fitness, while additional spa facilities are accessible through the neighbouring Grecotel property. Treatments can also become a more private experience, allowing time for a massage before returning to the garden, pool or beach.
Where
Caramel, A Grecotel Resort to Live is located directly on the beach at Adelianos Kampos, approximately 6 kilometres from Rethymno and its Venetian harbour, with Agreco Farm around 3 kilometres away in the Cretan countryside.
