Our View

Casa Di Veneto has the sort of character that stays with you; we’d linger over homemade breakfast in that lovely old courtyard, spend the day exploring Crete and come back for a glass of wine among the stone walls in the evening.

In the old village of Hersonissos, Casa Di Veneto occupies a lovingly restored Venetian residence where just six individually conceived suites, an atmospheric courtyard and centuries of Cretan history give the stay a wonderfully personal sense of place.

The story of the building is inseparable from the hotel. Parts of Casa Di Veneto date from the Venetian rule of Crete, when this corner of the village formed part of the old Frankish quarter, and its restoration was undertaken over several years by the owners themselves. Original stonework, arches and traditional architectural details have been preserved, allowing the character of the residence to remain visible rather than becoming simply a backdrop.

Inside, the decoration has been collected with the same personal approach. Antique furniture, paintings and lighting sourced from Athens and Mytilene sit alongside handmade Eastern rugs, rich fabrics and traditional details, giving rooms and shared spaces the feeling of a much loved old home. The stone courtyard and intimate lobby complete the picture, creating places that invite you to sit for a while and take in the building itself.

Rooms & Suites

The suites take their names from the goddesses of Olympus, continuing the sense that each room has been given an identity of its own. Stone walls, period inspired furnishings and carefully chosen decorative pieces bring warmth and individuality, while natural COCO-MAT mattresses and bedding add a thoughtful layer of comfort behind the historic character.

Afroditi Maisonette is the most romantic choice, combining its split level arrangement with a private jacuzzi, while Artemis Maisonette uses its additional level to create a more spacious sense of separation between different parts of the suite. The Double Room provides a simpler way to experience the same historic surroundings.

Terraces and outdoor spaces extend the rooms into the courtyard and village setting, while whirlpool showers and APIVITA toiletries introduce contemporary comforts without competing with the architecture. It is the details gathered over time that give the accommodation its appeal, with no sense that the interiors have been reproduced from room to room.

Dining

Mornings belong to Borgo, the small café tucked into the courtyard. Homemade breakfast is served in an intimate setting of old stone and greenery, making the start of the day feel very much part of the Casa Di Veneto experience rather than a separate hotel routine.

Later, the courtyard becomes somewhere for coffee or tea accompanied by a traditional spoon sweet, or for a glass of wine as the day begins to cool. Old Hersonissos itself adds considerably more choice, with village tavernas and places to eat within the surrounding streets.

Experience

Staying here is as much about discovering this part of Crete as spending time within the hotel. Old Hersonissos has retained the character of a traditional inland village, with stone houses, small streets and local tavernas creating a very different atmosphere from the coast below.

Walking and cycling are particularly rewarding ways to see the surrounding countryside, while cooking classes, cultural tours and other experiences can be arranged for guests wanting to get closer to Cretan life. Horse riding, diving and snorkelling provide further possibilities when the day calls for something more active.

The coast remains close at hand, so it is easy to combine village mornings with time beside the sea before returning to the quieter atmosphere of Old Hersonissos in the evening.

Wellness

The courtyard is Casa Di Veneto’s natural place to slow down, whether over breakfast, an afternoon coffee or a drink before dinner. Surrounded by old stone and the details of the restored residence, it captures the intimate, personal character that runs through the entire stay.

Where

Casa Di Veneto is located in Old Hersonissos, with Limenas Hersonissou Beach approximately 2.5 kilometres away, Heraklion International Airport around 20 kilometres away and the Palace of Knossos approximately 28 kilometres from the hotel.
