Descending through mature gardens to its own private shoreline on Mirabello Bay, St Nicolas Bay Resort Hotel & Villas is an established Elounda retreat where 113 rooms, suites and villas share an exceptional relationship with the sea.

The setting has a wonderful maturity to it. Low rise buildings follow the natural slope towards the water, stone paths wind through flowering gardens and terraces appear at different levels above the bay. Rather than presenting itself all at once, the resort gradually reveals pools, shaded corners and little seafront spaces as the landscape drops towards the beach.

Mirabello Bay is the constant presence. Many of the terraces seem almost suspended above its clear blue water, while the private sandy beach gives the resort a genuine connection to the coast. Traditional Mediterranean architecture and established gardens soften the scale, creating a resort that feels comfortably settled into this beautiful corner of eastern Crete.

Rooms & Suites

The 113 rooms, suites and villas extend from classic accommodation to substantial private pool residences, with balconies and terraces drawing the living spaces towards the sea. Marble bathrooms, generous proportions and carefully framed views give even the simpler categories a strong sense of place.

Private pools become an important part of the collection, from intimate studios and seafront suites to the two and three bedroom Club residences and Olives & Sea villas. Villa Thalassa adds three bedrooms and a private heated pool, while the seafront Poseidon House and Club Suites place guests particularly close to Mirabello Bay. Families are equally well considered, with two bedroom suites offering either a private pool or outdoor hot tub.

Dining

Dining has enough variety to give each evening a different character. Labyrinthos celebrates Greek flavours, while The Minotaure creates a more intimate setting accompanied by live music. Blue Bay brings Mediterranean and Asian influences to the table, and Kafenion draws on the generous, uncomplicated cooking of a traditional Cretan gathering place.

Breakfast is served at the Clubhouse, while Astra Bar and Bonatsa Jetty Bar make particularly good use of the waterfront setting for drinks later in the day. Across the resort, the pleasure comes from being able to move from a relaxed meal close to the sea to something more polished in the evening without losing that connection to Crete.

Experience

The private beach is naturally at the heart of summer here, complemented by outdoor pools and terraces arranged along the coast. Snorkelling, diving, canoeing and windsurfing make full use of Mirabello Bay, while fishing trips, hiking and cycling provide reasons to venture beyond the water.

There is plenty for families too, with a kids club, children's pool, games and organised activities alongside babysitting when parents want time to themselves. Cooking classes, live music and themed evenings add another dimension, although some of the loveliest hours are simply spent moving between the beach and a favourite terrace above the bay.

Wellness

Poseidon Spa is a substantial wellness retreat built around the restorative traditions of thalassotherapy. An indoor seawater pool is joined by a hammam, sauna, steam room, hot tub and an extensive collection of massages, facials and body therapies, with Elemis and Cinq Mondes treatments adding depth to the programme.

Yoga and fitness classes, personal training and a dedicated fitness centre provide a more active counterpart, making wellness a meaningful part of the resort rather than an occasional addition to a beach holiday.

Where

St Nicolas Bay occupies its own stretch of coastline close to Agios Nikolaos, giving guests easy access to the town's harbour, restaurants and shops while preserving the feeling of a private seaside retreat. Elounda and the wider Mirabello coast are equally accessible, opening up eastern Crete for days beyond the resort.
