Eagles Palace

Among mature Mediterranean gardens on the Athos Peninsula, Eagles Palace, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, is a family owned resort with a century of hospitality behind it, a beautiful private sandy beach and the waters surrounding Mount Athos stretching out ahead.

There is a reassuring sense of permanence to Eagles Palace. The 152 rooms, suites and bungalows are spread through the gardens and towards the waterfront, with natural colours, marble bathrooms and balconies or terraces maintaining the hotel’s classic Mediterranean character. Garden View rooms sit among the greenery, while Sea View categories open the outlook towards the Aegean and become increasingly impressive as the accommodation moves closer to the shore.

Bungalows are particularly appealing here, with Sea View and Sea Front options making the most of the resort’s coastal layout. Selected bungalows and suites add private pools, including the Nero Suite and larger two bedroom categories, giving couples and families the freedom to spend much of the day within their own outdoor space.

At the top of the collection, the Grand Suite Sea Front combines an exceptional waterfront position with its own pool, while the Presidential Bungalow, named Maria Callas, provides one of the hotel’s most distinctive stays. These upper categories capture Eagles Palace at its best, with space, privacy and the sea becoming the defining elements.

Dining

Dining has the breadth you would expect from a resort designed for longer stays. Melathron and Lofos provide generous Mediterranean menus in relaxed settings, while Kamares creates a more intimate adults only dining experience and a natural choice for an evening when dinner deserves a little more time.

Armyra belongs closer to the sea, with fish and seafood particularly suited to its coastal setting, while Vinum brings another distinctive option to the collection. Across the restaurants there is a strong Greek thread, from the local produce at breakfast to dishes that make the most of the region’s seafood and Mediterranean ingredients.

Bars are spread between the main hotel, pool and beach, so the day can move naturally from coffee in the morning to something cold beside the water and cocktails after sunset. It is an arrangement that works especially well here, allowing the gardens and shoreline to remain part of the experience long after lunch has finished.

Experience

The private Blue Flag beach is the heart of Eagles Palace, with soft sand and clear water making it the place where much of the day naturally unfolds. Canoeing and snorkelling are easy additions, while the dedicated water sports and diving centre opens up windsurfing, waterskiing and scuba diving for those tempted further out into the bay.

The Yacht Club takes that connection with the sea beyond the shoreline. Private cruises explore the coastline around the Athos Peninsula, while excursions to the uninhabited Drenia islands lead to wonderfully clear water and the resort’s own equipped beach, turning a day away from the hotel into one of the experiences worth remembering.

Back on land there are tennis courts, yoga and fitness activities, while younger guests have their own kids club and outdoor play spaces. The combination works particularly well for families, with plenty to fill the day while the beach remains an easy meeting point whenever everyone comes back together.

Wellness

Eagles Spa provides a quieter world within the gardens, with an indoor pool, hammam, sauna and dedicated treatment rooms. Massages and body therapies sit alongside a broader wellness programme, creating plenty of scope for a slower afternoon away from the sun.

Fitness classes, yoga and personal training complement the spa, but the setting itself contributes just as much to the sense of wellbeing. A swim before breakfast, a walk through the gardens and an afternoon beside the Aegean can provide a pretty convincing wellness programme of their own.
