Katikies Mykonos

Above Agios Ioannis with uninterrupted views across the Aegean, Katikies Mykonos is an adults only retreat where private pool suites, two infinity pools and some of the island’s most interesting dining come together in a beautifully polished hillside setting.

There is a wonderful openness to Katikies Mykonos. Whitewashed buildings rise amphitheatrically above the coast, broken by flashes of bougainvillea and terraces that seem to hang between sea and sky. Rather than competing with the view, the architecture continually leads you back to it, with curved Cycladic forms, open walkways and brilliant white walls framing that deep Mykonian blue.

The mood changes almost imperceptibly as the day moves on. Mornings are wonderfully peaceful, afternoons belong to the pools and terraces, and towards evening the lounges begin to stir as everyone gravitates towards the water for a drink. It has enough energy to feel unmistakably Mykonos, but Agios Ioannis gives the hotel a more relaxed setting than the island’s busier coastal addresses.

Rooms & Suites

Every room and suite faces the sea, with a private terrace making the Aegean part of the experience from the moment you wake. Interiors combine Cycladic whites with warm timber floors and elegant contemporary furnishings, creating spaces that feel sophisticated without distracting from what is happening beyond the doors.

Outdoor living becomes increasingly important as you move through the categories. Superior Double Rooms begin with generous sea view terraces, while Junior and Senior Suites add open air jetted tubs for long afternoons outside. Higher categories introduce private pools, including the Superior, Honeymoon and Katikies Suites, each with its own piece of the hillside and the sea stretched out ahead.

The Master Suite with Private Pool and Sea View is the collection at its most indulgent, giving you enough privacy and outdoor space to make abandoning your own terrace surprisingly difficult. Across the categories, it is that combination of water, terrace and uninterrupted horizon that makes the accommodation feel particularly Mykonian.

Dining

Botrini’s Mykonos gives the hotel a serious culinary centrepiece. Chef Ettore Botrini brings his Greek and Italian heritage to contemporary Mediterranean cooking, using the produce of land and sea in dishes that arrive with plenty of imagination, while the infinity pool and Aegean provide a spectacular backdrop to dinner.

The Upper Deck Lounge is made for those long Mykonos lunches that gradually turn into an afternoon beside the pool, with Greek flavours given an international twist. Lower Deck Lounge is equally easygoing, surrounded by whitewashed walls and bougainvillea, and works beautifully for anything from a leisurely bite to drinks as the day begins to cool.

Then there is Fleur de Miraval Champagne Bar, which adds a rather glamorous final note. A glass of Champagne with the light beginning to drop across the Aegean feels entirely appropriate here, particularly before dinner when the pools, terraces and sea start to merge into the same deep blue.

Experience

The two infinity pools are the natural heart of Katikies Mykonos. Both look directly across the Aegean, with generous sun terraces and loungers arranged around the water so that the day can move easily between swimming, lunch and doing very little at all.

There is a sociable side to the pool decks, especially later in the afternoon, but plenty of quieter corners remain throughout the hotel. Guests with private pools can retreat completely when they choose, while the lounges provide somewhere to rejoin the rhythm of the hotel without needing to leave for the day.

Agios Ioannis Beach is close by when you want the sea rather than the pool, and Mykonos Town is easily reached for an evening among Chora’s restaurants, bars and narrow whitewashed lanes. The hotel’s concierge can also arrange experiences around the island, allowing Mykonos to become as much or as little a part of the day as you want.

Wellness

A.SPA provides a calmer counterpoint to the sunshine and social life outside, with massages, facials, body therapies and dedicated spa rituals complemented by a relaxation area and fitness centre. Couples treatments and longer wellness packages make it easy to give over an afternoon to the spa before returning to the terraces.

There is something particularly satisfying about that transition here, emerging from a treatment into the bright Cycladic light and heading back towards the water. Whether that means one of the infinity pools or your own private pool, the Aegean is waiting almost everywhere you look.

Katikies Mykonos sits above Agios Ioannis on the island’s southwest coast, around 500 metres from the beach and within easy reach of Mykonos Town, combining a beautifully private sea facing position with straightforward access to Chora when the evening calls for it.
