The Ambassador has been part of the island’s luxury hotel story for decades, run by the Myconian Collection family and occupying a hillside position that gives it a very different perspective from the hotels gathered along the sand below. There is plenty happening around Platis Gialos, but up here the pace feels more measured. Rooms & Suites

Accommodation ranges from the Sea Breeze rooms through an extensive collection of White Bliss, True Blue and Thalassa categories to larger suites, retreats and two bedroom villas. Sea views feature throughout much of the collection, with terraces extending the rooms into the open air and making the most of the elevated position.

The real temptation lies in the sheer choice of private water. Heated private pools, outdoor Jacuzzis and sharing pools appear across numerous categories, from White Bliss and True Blue rooms to the Azure, Passion and Thalassa suites. Higher on the scale, Grand Blue and the Horizon Retreat Suite combine private pools with broad sea views, while the two bedroom villas provide considerably more space for families or friends travelling together.

Interiors stay true to the island with white surfaces and clean lines, leaving the stronger colours to the Aegean outside. It is an approach that works particularly well here, where the terrace and the view are as important to the experience as the room itself.

Dining

Relais & Châteaux membership puts food firmly at the heart of the Ambassador, with Efisia providing the main event after dark. Mediterranean cooking draws heavily on Greek produce and the sea, with dinner served against the changing colours of Platis Gialos as daylight disappears from the bay.

Mornings begin at Latitudes, where breakfast stretches from Greek favourites to a broad selection of international dishes. George’s Bar takes over beside the pool during the day with drinks and lighter food, making lunch an easy affair that rarely requires moving very far from a sun lounger.

Experience

Platis Gialos gives the Ambassador one of the most useful positions on the south coast. The beach below is made for swimming and long lunches beside the water, while boats connect this part of the island with other famous beaches along the coast, turning a day at Paranga, Paradise or beyond into a wonderfully simple outing.

The hotel’s diving club opens up another side of Mykonos, with diving and snorkelling joined by windsurfing, canoeing and other water sports. Back on land there is cycling, hiking and horse riding, although it is equally easy to spend the entire day alternating between the sea and that expansive pool terrace.

Wellness

The spa is far more than an afterthought. Thalassotherapy forms an important part of the wellness programme, using seawater alongside an extensive choice of massages, body treatments, facials and beauty therapies, with steam facilities and dedicated relaxation areas completing the experience.
