Spread across five acres above Agios Ioannis Beach, Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort is a five star member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World where whitewashed Cycladic architecture, generous grounds and a magnificent outlook towards sacred Delos create a wonderfully composed side of Mykonos.

There is a sense of space at Mykonos Grand that immediately sets the tone. Ninety six rooms and suites are scattered among cube shaped buildings, cobbled paths and terraces that gradually descend towards the Aegean, giving the resort the feeling of a small Cycladic village. Blue appears against brilliant white walls, gardens soften the stone and Delos remains a constant presence across the water.

Agios Ioannis has its own place in Mykonos folklore as the setting for Shirley Valentine, but the bay needs little cinematic help. Sunsets fall directly across the water, the beach sits at the bottom of the grounds and the broad coastal setting gives the hotel an appealingly languid atmosphere. It is a place with enough room to find your own favourite corner and return to it day after day.

Rooms & Suites

Rooms and suites continue the Cycladic character with cool whites, touches of blue and clean lined furnishings, opening onto balconies or patios facing the sea, gardens or pool. The scale is generous throughout, beginning with Premium Garden and Sea View Rooms before progressing through Superior Rooms and a varied collection of suites.

The sea view suites make the most of the hotel’s position, with Open Plan, Junior, Premium and Executive categories offering increasingly spacious layouts. Several add private pools, including the Sea View, Deluxe, Signature and Grand Suites, creating private outdoor spaces where the view towards Delos becomes very much your own.

For a larger gathering, the four bedroom Mykonos Grand Villa brings considerably more space and independence while keeping the resort’s restaurants, beach, spa and service close at hand. It is a particularly appealing arrangement for families or friends travelling together.

Dining

Nama is the heart of dining at Mykonos Grand, an elegant open air restaurant where Mediterranean cooking, grilled dishes and fresh seafood are served against the Aegean. Tables spread across the terrace rather than crowding the view, making dinner feel as much about the setting and the changing evening light as what arrives on the plate.

The wine cellar brings together Greek and international labels, while White Bar is made for the hour when Agios Ioannis begins to glow. Champagne on the terrace as the sun drops towards Delos is one of those simple Mykonos rituals that is difficult to improve upon.

Experience

The great sweep of the swimming pool forms the resort’s outdoor centre, with plenty of terrace around it and quieter pockets for settling in with a book. From here the gardens and pathways continue down towards the hotel’s private section of Agios Ioannis Beach, allowing the day to drift naturally between pool and sea.

There is plenty to draw you away from the lounger too. Tennis, cycling, snorkelling, diving and horse riding can all become part of the stay, while cooking classes and local experiences provide a closer connection with the island. The stone amphitheatre is a particularly memorable setting for yoga and fitness sessions, with the Aegean forming a rather spectacular backdrop.

Wellness

Althea Spa is a destination in its own right, drawing on Greek wellness traditions for massages, body treatments and rituals alongside a hammam, sauna, steam room and hot tub. Its treatment menu is extensive, but the atmosphere remains soothing and closely connected to the slower rhythm of the resort.

A Technogym fitness centre, personal training, yoga and fitness classes provide the more active side of wellness. We particularly like the idea of starting in the amphitheatre while the morning is still cool, then heading straight down through the grounds for a swim in the Aegean.

Where

Agios Ioannis gives Mykonos Grand a lovely balance between beach and island life. Mykonos Town is close enough to dip into whenever you fancy its boutiques, restaurants and late nights, while the journey home brings you back to a much gentler stretch of coast, with Delos across the water and another of those famous sunsets waiting the following evening.
