Myconian Panoptis Escape

High above Elia on the wilder southern side of Mykonos, Myconian Panoptis Escape is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World built around a remarkable collection of private villas, each with its own pool or outdoor Jacuzzi and the Aegean stretching away below.

Panoptis feels more like a private hillside enclave than a conventional hotel. Villas are scattered across the landscape rather than gathered into a single building, their terraces following the contours of the land and opening towards an enormous expanse of sea and sky. Natural stone, brilliant white walls and low Cycladic forms keep everything closely connected to Mykonos, but there is a wonderful sense of being somewhere entirely your own.

Privacy is the real luxury here. Much of the day can be spent within your villa, moving between the pool, shaded outdoor living areas and sun warmed terraces without needing to join the rest of the hotel at all. When you do emerge, the shared spaces remain intimate, with the main pool and restaurant providing a gentle centre to the retreat.

The villa collection begins with the Panoptis Honeymoon Retreat, offered with either a private pool or outdoor Jacuzzi, before moving through one, two and three bedroom villas with their own pools. The emphasis throughout is firmly on outdoor living, with generous terraces and the Aegean forming the backdrop to days spent almost entirely outside.

The larger villas work beautifully for families and groups of friends, giving everyone the freedom of a private residence while retaining the service and facilities of a Small Luxury Hotels of the World retreat. Interiors use stone, timber and soft natural tones, creating relaxed spaces that sit comfortably within the rugged Mykonian landscape.

At the extraordinary end of the collection is the 21 bedroom Panoptis Escape villa with 12 private pools, effectively transforming the retreat into a private Mykonos hideaway for a large celebration or group stay. It is an exceptional proposition on an island where privacy on this scale is increasingly precious.

Dining

The Restaurant keeps dining rooted in the Mediterranean, with local ingredients and Greek flavours served against the wide sea views that define Panoptis. Breakfast can be a leisurely affair on the terrace, while later meals retain the same relaxed character and make good use of the island’s produce.

Private dining is particularly well suited to the villas, allowing lunch, dinner or drinks to come to you when leaving your terrace feels entirely unnecessary. Barbecue facilities add another dimension to longer stays, and the bar provides an easy gathering point around the shared pool when you fancy a change of scene.

Experience

The outdoor pool and its sun terrace provide Panoptis with a small social heart, but the surrounding coastline is equally tempting. Agrari and Elia put two beautiful Mykonos beaches close at hand, with clear Aegean water and plenty of opportunity to spend the day swimming or out on the sea.

Snorkelling, diving, canoeing and windsurfing can all be arranged, alongside horse riding, cycling, hiking and fishing. Cooking classes and local cultural experiences bring a different perspective to the island, while a boat remains one of our favourite ways to see this side of Mykonos and the quieter coves scattered along its coast.

Wellness

Wellness at Panoptis is designed to work around the privacy of the retreat, with yoga, fitness sessions, personal training and an extensive choice of massage and body therapies. Facials and beauty treatments broaden the programme, making it easy to build a genuinely restorative day without disrupting the wonderfully unhurried rhythm of the villas.

The setting does much of the work itself. Early yoga with the Aegean below, a swim in your own pool and a massage later in the afternoon feel completely natural here, particularly when the alternative is simply another hour stretched out on the terrace.

Where

Panoptis occupies a beautifully secluded corner of southern Mykonos, with Elia and Agrari providing the beaches and the rest of the island ready whenever you want it. Mykonos Town brings a complete change of pace for an evening out, but returning afterwards to a private villa high above the coast is very much part of the pleasure.
