Maregio Suites

Cut into the caldera cliffs beside Oia Castle, Maregio Suites by Fotinos is an adults only collection of just seven suites where every terrace has its own heated plunge pool and an uninterrupted front row view of Santorini’s legendary sunset.

Maregio takes one of Oia’s greatest luxuries, privacy, and makes it central to the experience. The suites sit within the whitewashed cliffside at the quieter edge of the village, close enough to wander into its lanes within minutes yet sufficiently removed to let you enjoy the caldera without constantly feeling part of the crowds above.

Traditional cave architecture has been beautifully pared back, with sculpted white walls, curved ceilings and simple contemporary furnishings drawing your attention towards the openings and the extraordinary landscape beyond. Outside, terraces are unusually generous for Oia and become the real living rooms of each suite, suspended above the caldera with the volcano and Aegean spread out ahead.

Rooms & Suites

There are only seven suites, and each has been designed around its outdoor space. Junior, Senior and Deluxe Suites pair their terraces with heated plunge pools, while the Honeymoon Suite provides an especially romantic setting for watching the changing light across the caldera.

The Cave Suite takes the traditional Santorini experience further, combining the intimacy of cave living with an outdoor heated infinity plunge pool. The Premium Suite brings its pool into the cave itself, creating a wonderfully atmospheric private space shaped by the island’s volcanic architecture.

Inside, the mood remains beautifully simple. Soft neutral colours, generous seating areas and carefully chosen details complement the sculpted architecture, while the emphasis remains firmly on what waits outside the door. At Maregio, the terrace is never merely an addition to the suite, it is where much of the holiday happens.

Dining

Dining follows the private nature of the hotel, allowing meals and drinks to become part of the suite experience rather than pulling you away from that remarkable setting. Breakfast is the sort of occasion best allowed to stretch, particularly when there is a heated pool a few steps from the table and the caldera already glowing in the morning light.

Oia itself provides another world of possibilities within a short walk. Its restaurants, wine bars and tavernas allow evenings to be as lively or intimate as you choose, with the considerable pleasure of returning afterwards to your own terrace above the sleeping caldera.

Experience

Life at Maregio is deliberately centred on the suites rather than a long list of communal facilities. The combination of a large private terrace, heated plunge pool and extraordinary outlook gives you very little reason to seek out a conventional pool deck, particularly when sunset can be watched privately from the water.

When Santorini eventually tempts you away, the hotel can help arrange everything from cooking classes and horse riding to hiking, diving and days on the water. The famous path along the caldera also puts the island’s extraordinary volcanic landscape quite literally beneath your feet.

Wellness

Wellness here is personal and wonderfully uncomplicated. Massages can be arranged without turning the stay into a formal spa programme, leaving the warm water of your plunge pool, the sea air and the quiet of the terrace to provide much of the restoration naturally.

There is something especially indulgent about returning from a day around Santorini, slipping into the heated water and watching the cliffs change colour as evening approaches. In a place famous for its sunset, having somewhere completely private from which to enjoy it makes all the difference.

Where

Maregio sits beside Oia Castle at the western end of the village, placing its famous blue domes, galleries, boutiques and restaurants within an easy wander. It is a particularly rewarding position at sunset, when visitors gather around the castle above while you can simply return to your terrace, pour a drink and watch the same spectacle unfold from your own pool.
