Our View

There is a depth to Six Senses Laamu that goes far beyond its beautiful setting; if we were choosing one Maldivian resort for nature, marine life and a genuine sense of place, this would be high on the list.

Six Senses Laamu occupies its own island in the remote Laamu Atoll and remains one of the Maldives' most compelling resorts, combining extraordinary marine life, thoughtful sustainability and a level of seclusion that few islands can match.

Laamu feels different from the moment you arrive. It sits far south of the country's busier atolls and remains the only resort in the entire atoll, giving it an exclusivity that has nothing to do with room rates or labels. The island itself is beautifully natural, with broad beaches, dense tropical vegetation and a house reef that has become central to the resort's identity. Rather than imposing itself on the landscape, the resort works with it, allowing the island's character to remain firmly intact.

The atmosphere is relaxed but deeply considered. Sustainability is not treated as a marketing exercise here but as part of everyday life, supported by marine conservation projects, responsible sourcing and a long standing commitment to protecting the surrounding environment. It is a resort with genuine substance behind its reputation.

Staying

The 94 villas are divided between beach and overwater settings, each designed to maximise privacy while maintaining a strong connection to the island and ocean. Timber walkways stretch across the lagoon to the overwater villas, while the beach villas sit tucked amongst tropical greenery with direct access to the sand.

Accommodation is generous throughout, with outdoor living areas playing as important a role as the interiors themselves. Categories such as the Ocean Beach Villa with Pool, Sunset Laamu Water Villa with Pool and Two Bedroom Ocean Beach Villa with Pool provide substantial space for longer stays, while outdoor bathrooms, large terraces and private pools reinforce the resort's relaxed indoor outdoor lifestyle.

Dining is one of Six Senses Laamu's strongest attributes and reflects the brand's focus on quality ingredients and originality. The Market and Longitude form the heart of the culinary offering, while LEAF remains one of the most distinctive restaurants in the Maldives, positioned above the island's organic gardens and drawing heavily on produce grown on site.

Zen introduces Japanese influences, Kaji centres around interactive grill dining and Sip Sip provides a more casual setting beside the pool. The Drift offers a castaway style dining experience, while Deck a Dence creates memorable private dinners above the lagoon. The Point, Chill Bar, Sake Lounge and the impressive Altitude Wine Cellar ensure evenings are as rewarding as the daytime dining experiences.

Experience

The surrounding waters are the reason many guests return. Laamu Atoll is widely regarded as one of the Maldives' most rewarding regions for diving, with healthy coral systems, strong marine biodiversity and regular encounters with manta rays, dolphins and turtles. The resort's house reef is excellent, while the nearby Yin Yang surf break has earned an international reputation amongst experienced surfers.

Beyond the water there are sailing excursions, kayaking, windsurfing, cooking classes and private island experiences, while dolphin cruises and Cinema Under the Stars have become signature parts of the guest experience. Despite the breadth of activities available, Laamu never loses its sense of calm and remoteness.

Wellness

The Six Senses Spa is among the finest wellness facilities in the Maldives. Treatment nests are positioned within the island's vegetation, complemented by Ayurvedic therapies, yoga programmes, steam facilities, a beauty studio and a Biohacking Lounge designed to assist with recovery, sleep and long haul travel. A fully equipped fitness centre completes a wellness offering that feels integrated into the resort rather than separate from it.

Where

Located on Olhuveli Island in Laamu Atoll, the resort is reached by a direct seaplane flight of approximately 65 minutes from Malé. Its position in one of the most remote inhabited regions of the Maldives provides access to exceptional marine environments and a degree of seclusion that is increasingly difficult to find elsewhere in the archipelago.
