Vayu is a meticulously restored 200-year-old captain’s house — one of the few remaining “Kapetanospita” in the Aegean — offering a rare blend of history, luxury, and modern comfort.

Perched on the Caldera cliff, the villa opens to breathtaking views of the volcano, the shimmering Aegean Sea, and some of the world’s most spectacular sunsets. Guests often describe their time here as truly unforgettable, touched by both its privileged location and deeply authentic charm.

    Outdoors

Elevated two metres above the cobbled path for a gentle sense of privacy, Vayu’s terrace invites quiet moments away from passersby. The heated plunge pool, complete with soothing bubble jet massage, frames panoramic caldera views — a scene that feels especially magical at sunset. Dine alfresco under the stars at the terrace table, or retreat to the rooftop lounge for sweeping 360-degree vistas of Fira and the volcano. The villa warmly welcomes pets upon request, adding to its relaxed, home-like feel.

    Indoors

The interiors honour the house’s rich legacy while embracing modern ease. Loft-style bedrooms, each with private living or dining areas, offer intimacy and flexibility — perfect for families or groups. A cave-inspired bedroom quietly nods to Santorini’s volcanic roots, while cosy living spaces include plush sofa beds for up to four extra children. Two kitchens and airy common areas, dressed in minimalist Cycladic style, invite gatherings over meals or peaceful moments of togetherness.

    Good to know

Vayu strikes a gentle balance in location — just a short walk from Fira’s lively heart, yet far enough to feel peacefully removed from the crowds. Wander through chic boutiques, cliffside bars, and seafood tavernas, or head to the nearby bay for sunset cruises. Santorini’s renowned vineyards, volcanic beaches, and the postcard-perfect Oia are all easily reached. History lovers will appreciate that this rare “Kapetanospito” endured the island’s devastating 1956 earthquake — a quiet testament to its enduring strength and charm.
