Medieval towns crown hilltops across the region, their stone streets leading to lively piazzas, family-run restaurants and remarkable churches filled with artistic treasures. Perugia, Orvieto and Assisi each possess their own distinct character, whilst smaller towns reveal some of the most rewarding discoveries of all.

Beyond the towns, vineyards, olive groves and open countryside create a landscape made for leisurely exploration. Days are spent wandering historic streets, lingering over local food and wine or simply enjoying the views from a terrace as the light changes across the hills. Umbria may be less famous than some of Italy's headline destinations, but for many travellers it becomes one of the most memorable.
